Outdoor plissé lamp

Le Klint is renowned for its iconic folded paper lamps, a craft that creates soft ambient light and a unique texture where light meets material.

This tradition is challenging to take outside. Outdoor lighting demands durability to withstand weather and direct sunlight, which calls for entirely different materials. In addition, outdoor lamps come with their own set of design restrictions.

After sketching ideas and exploring materials, we arrived at an unexpected yet obvious insight:
What if we carried Le Klint’s plissé tradition not through paper, but through light itself?

By directing the light through the sides of the lamp, we were able to project a plissé-like effect onto facades, creating that familiar softness in an entirely new context. This approach also gave us the opportunity to reinterpret the folded aesthetic using a durable material suitable for outdoor conditions.

Through experiments inspired by origami traditions, we developed a stamped metal design that captures the spirit of Le Klint’s heritage while meeting the demands of the outdoors.
